If you understand this…

My friend Diosdado Cano wrote about the issue of Senator Antonio Fas Alzamora who filed a bill to make Spanish the official language of Puerto Rico. I really don’t think he will prevail at last because at this time he has no leadership on the Popular wing of the Senate and have almost no followers at the House of Representatives.

This waste with old-time ideas that were previously approved and later discarded by the following administration may not be taken seriously. When it was approved as a Law many years ago,  It was deliberated to be one of the steps of the former governor Rafael Hernández Colón to strengthen his own interests with Spain. As a fact, he gained a recognition award and worked at a Spaniard university after he finished his term as Governor of Puerto Rico. As we all know the economic loss of the Pabellón de Sevilla brought us no benefits but expenses.

If you can read this, you understand the English Language. You may know the importance of learning this way of communication to use at the highest level of productivity with other means as the Internet, the telephone, the Cable TV,  to compete for a job or to perform any other human activity.

Don’t be foolish. Having two official languages is an open door to show our intelligence and capacities to the world. Otherwise, the limitations put us in a permanent disadvantage that affects our self esteem and prevent us to participate for a better place. This will never diminish our sense of vegabajeño or puertorriqueño nor our roots with Spain or Spanish Language. Nevertheless, life is too short to lose time with unimportant things that can cause irreparable self inflicted harm.

My solidarity with Diosdado’s opinion. To legislate to discriminate  is a racist view of point and denial of our history  besides and within the United States of America.
